Conversations From the Workplace

Me (to Some Guy):  May I help you?

Some Guy:  Oh I don’t want to buy nothin’, but you need to call Security.

Me: Why?

SG:  There is some woman outside breastfeeding!

Me:  Well, sir, there is no need for Security she is allowed to do that.

SG:  NO!  She’s not!  She can not do that!  It’s indecent!  Where’s your manager.  (at this point he is yelling)

Me:  I am sorry sir, but it is her right to feed her child.  And, I am the manager.

SG:  She can’t do that out there!  I am calling HPD!

Me:  It is your right to do that, but she is still allowed to be there.  She could even come in here and do it if she wanted.  Have a nice day.

Being that HPD never even showed up, I am guessing either he gave up, they told him that they had better things to do, or by the time he went back outside the kid was finished w/ lunch.

The only reason that breast feeding is indecent is b/c douche bags like this guy make it into some kind of sexual thing instead of the perfectly natural and beautiful thing that it is.  It is not his right to make a sex scene out of a child enjoying lunch outside on a beautiful sunny day.  The problem w/ breast feeding is that of society’s and how we view women and all their parts, not the problem of the woman who is taking good care of her child.  Breasts are not just some sex toy or fun bag for amusement behind closed doors and women are not merely for ogling and objectification.  It’s only sexual b/c he made it that way.

As a nursing mother, I totally appreciated this post. While no one’s actually come out and -said- anything to me yet (though, I would love them to, they’d get an earful) I have received several dirty looks as I nurse my son in public. Now, mind you, I am discreet while in public, I use a blanket to cover him if I’m like in a store, it’s still pretty clear what I’m doing (’cause you can see tiny feets sticking out). My right to feed my son is a federally protected one. If only I wished in Europe where I didn’t have to cover up at all…Americans are such prudes!

I’da said to the dude something along the lines of, “What do you think the breasts are for, idiot, their entire purpose is food. Get a life.”

A friend of a friend is bottle feeding her son b/c her husband thinks breastfeeding is “weird.” A) it’s my choice, not yours jerkoff B) again, with the “What do you think these things are for!!!

I totally agree w/ you on that one. I was *not* discrete. I did it anywhere and anytime the Kid was hungry. She hated the blanket and always threw it off, and it was way too hot to have her smothered under there anyway. Sure, I got dirty looks…but several states now have laws making it clear that breast feeding is indeed not indecent.

    People need to grow up.

    ZOMG boobies!

    wev.
