Keira Knightley says “No” to airbrushing and enhancing of her breasts.
If you remember any of the “Impossibly Beautiful” series from Shakesville you will remember side by side comparisons showing before and after (go to “portfolio”, you can mouse over the image to see how it was altered) of celebrities and how they have been altered. In a society that demands it’s women celebrities and supermodels to be dangerously thin we find that it still isn’t good enough. Photographs are still enhanced to make women (and men too!) look the way we feel they should. In Knightley’s case her breasts were enhanced in photos to make them perkier and larger, most notably in the 2004 movie King Arthur. I actually love her quote on that: “Those things certainly weren’t mine!”.
It isn’t enough to objectify women routinely as if that is all they are there for, but we insist that the women that we hold as the beauty still aren’t good enough. They still aren’t perfect enough and they need to be artificially altered for our enjoyment.
So kudos to you, Keria Knightley, for being added to my Girl Crush list for standing up and saying no to the ridiculousness that is photo enhancement. Thank-you for taking a small step in advocating self love. Thank you for telling us that even though there are things that you don’t like about your body (like the rest of us mere mortals) that you accept that it is who you are naturally. Rock on!
h/t to Shakesville.

I do love her for this. I know I’ve seen her boobs so many different sizes I actually thought by PoTC she’d gotten a boob job or something!
I can almost forgive her for trying to be Elizabeth Bennet thanks to this!
