random babble…

i would like to apologize for the lack of posts this week.  i did a few…and there were more…many many more i wanted to do…but so much has happened…

i finally finished the piece i was working on for the anthology…and as fun as it was to do, i am a little relieved, b/c it was making me crazy.  probably b/c this was the first time i have written anything serious since college…very intimidating.  now i just have to wait and see if they accepted it.  either way it was good for me…as i am thinking it is something i want to try to do more…

also, this weekend was the annual “Cookie Bake” for the Kid’s school.  i volunteered to chair the committee for it, and i got my happy ass up at 0200, made a breakfast dish to pass, and was at the cafeteria we borrowed at 0400 to start baking 4,000 dozen…that’s not a typo…cookies.  don’t get me wrong, it was a ton of fun, and now that i know how it goes i just may volunteer again.  that was an all day event, but i did get a bit of a break mid day.

i did manage to squeeze in some time for foot pampering w/ my friend who is now 13 days overdue, b/c a crazy girlie thing is making sure that if a doctor has to see you for hours spread eagle, at least s/he is going to be staring at pretty feet.  last night a former boss of mine was on island on his way out of the country for a new job, so the Guy and i were invited to meet up w/ him, his wife, and some friends for dinner.  it was super wonderful to see him.  quite possibly the most awesome person i have ever had the privilege of working for, and he helped me out w/ some horrible situations a while back.

then today Kid and i were up at 0700, heading off to the local safeway where we sat out front selling cookies for over four hours.  i told her that i would buy her ice cream after school if she sold 50 dozen today.  she sold 63 dozen, and even got a dollar from a lady who didn’t want cookies, but felt bad b/c she was so cute.  i have to hand it to her, she was pretty shameless.  the big excitement was when a fight broke out in the parking lot and the cops came…but i missed the whole thing b/c a car was parked in the handicap spot in front of me.

Kid and i both came home and crashed hard for a couple of hours.  now she is playing some WoW waiting for dinner.  i think i need a weekend from my weekend.  luckily, it is a short work week.  my office is closed thurs. and fri. for carb-fest 07.  

this year we will be carrying on the tradition of putting on dinner for our shipmates (and a few airmen and marines) who either can’t go home b/c of work, or who don’t have leave, or who have no where else to go.  we are expecting quite a houseful…and are planning three turkeys (thankfully they are super cheap at safeway this year…$8.00 for 16+ pounds) and the guys are deep frying one, roasting one on the grill, and we are doing one more in my ridiculously huge crock pot.  there will be plenty of mulled wine and cider…and since the oven will be turkey-less i will have ample room for sides and dessert, including apple and onion stuffin muffins…which i have never done w/ maui onions…so i am excited…
