embracing the gamut of human possibility*

this may be the most awesomely wonderful thing that i have ever heard of.

Thomas, and his wife Nancy are expecting a child, only it is Thomas who is expecting.  they were on the Oprah show today, and while i don’t watch a lot of television anymore, i did watch the whole thing here.  listening to Thomas tell his story of growing up and through his change into who he is today brought tears to my eyes.  i have never heard the experience of a transgendered person explained this way.

this is such a beautiful story about being human.  seldom do i find things that inspire me, and give me hope that we, as a world, can change the way we see “normal”, and try to broaden our perceptions of it.  seeing the courage and the joy that Thomas and Nancy are experiencing bring me hope that we are going to see a change.  a change where we stop labeling people and stop sorting people into neat little stereotypes, and stop being afraid of things that we aren’t used to.  

i applaud you, Thomas and Nancy, for telling your story yourselves, and for being brave in this experience.  while i realize it is not ours to take as a learning and building opportunity, i thank you both for this, for the chance to see that the love that two people share is beautiful.  children should be loved and fully wanted, and if you want a child, it is your right to have one.  our society’s predisposed ideas of what should or should not be should not stop you.

i wish them all of the best.

go give Leno your “gayest look”

the incredible and fabulous Liss at Shakesville (a site about which i can not say enough good things) has started a compilation of “gayest looks” for Jay Leno.  it has really taken off…w/ quite the response, and is all over the blogosphere.  i am proud to say you will find yours truly showing Leno’s homophobic ass my “gayest look”…and if you are so inclined, i would encourage you to send yours to Liss as well. 

UPDATE!  even the LOLcats have caught on!  so very much awesomeness!
